I've tried many different plans, what makes this different?

This programme has been built because I’ve tried many things myself which haven’t worked. I’ve combined the science of weight loss with that of positive psychology. Weight loss has never been as simple as what we eat – if we’re not tackling the whole thing, then our success in both the short and long term is always going to be unpredictable.

Yep, I’m not going to lie you will need to set aside a few minutes a day to track what you’re eating and drinking. How else will you know whether you’re heading in a direction which is supporting or sabotaging your potential success? But we’re talking minutes here and because of the way we’ve created our tracker not only are there over 170,000 foods in the directory, but you can save your own foods and whole meals within seconds to make it quicker and easier.

Why should I trust you?

It’s a good question, it’s unlikely that we’ve met or had a conversation. I’m happy to, if that’s something you’d like to do. But in terms of answering the question all I can tell you is I know how it feels to want to lose weight and struggle. I’ve weighed thousands of people for two of the largest weight loss companies over a 15 year period. I saw what worked, and more importantly, what didn’t. I left and retrained because I thought as an industry we needed to do better, to offer more, to change the way we approach weight loss and truly support people. I've started and stopped so many times, maybe I'm not going to change

I know when you’ve tried many different things, with a whole range of success and different outcomes it can feel like you’ve tried everything, But what if we went a little deeper, scratched behind the surface of what went wrong? Was it that the plan wasn’t right for you – maybe it was hard to follow or didn’t fit in with your family and lifestyle? Was is that there were other things going on in your life which you didn’t know how to tackle and lose weight and no support was available to you? Maybe you were just told eventually you’d get there and given no direct actions to take? I know I’ve both been and seen others in those situations. That’s why we’re tackling head, heart and nutrition all in one place. Little by little, week by week.

I've got lots to lose, can you help?

I know having a lot to lose can feel really daunting, but constantly staring at a goal which feels too big, too far off doesn’t help. Instead let’s break it down, week by week. Let’s get a weight loss plan in place so you’re in control of your calorie intake and then let’s work on supporting you emotionally and mentally – being and feeling overweight is a more than just a number on the scales. When I restarted my journey having had my little boy I had nearly 6 stone to get me back to my lowest. Writing that down, having that as my ‘target’ often got in the way of my achievements and what I did each week never felt like it was enough. So now I focus on this week, what can I achieve this week, because if I don’t achieve something this week and next week and the week after, there’s little point looking any further ahead. So break it down, to lose 1 stone, we need to lose the first 1lb. To lose 5 stone, 10 stone – it doesn’t matter, we still have to lost that first 1lb and then focus on the next 1lb and the next.

My Approach

For far too long the approach to weight loss has simply been to throw an eating plan at you which you weren’t in control of, one which you didn’t know how it worked and fingers crossed and hope for the best. I’ve no doubt you may have had some success, but let’s be honest, if it had worked 100% you wouldn’t be here looking for me. Weight loss is more than just the food we eat, it’s the emotions, thoughts and actions these emotions and thoughts lead to. We need so many skills to enable us to achieve our weight loss goals such as resilience, positive self-talk, reframing, perspective, savouring, finding and unlocking our strengths and bundles of optimism. We also need to understand what leads to our behaviours, set realistic goals we can achieve, deal with trigger foods and self-sabotage, learn to rate our behaviour rather than who we are and understand what our bodies need to lose weight. It has to be more than just one of these things, that’s why I redesigned weight loss as Slimming Redefined.
